-Established in 1519, this historic horse race is run on the third Thursday in March on roadside verges between Kiplingcotes and Londesborough Wold Farm - a distance of around four miles.

-The race is generally accepted to be the oldest annual horse race in England.

-No race took place in 2020 due to Covid lockdowns, although horses and riders did travel the route (within lockdown rules) to honour the essence of the event.

-The 500th anniversary race took place in 2019.

-A website by John Slusar ((http://www.greyhoundderby.com/Kiplingcotes%20Derby%20homepage.html)) contains comprehensive historical information about the race including details of winners all the way back to the 1500s.  A copy of the rules of the race, set out in 1619, can also be found on that website.

-A book was published in 1990 by Alison Ellerington entitled "The Kiplingcotes Derby: England's Oldest Horse Race"
